The next project for the Norwood Residents Association will be to lobby Council to reinstate funding in its Long Term Financial Plan (LTFP) for capital investment in the Norwood Library.
For quite a few years now, Council had planned to invest in the Norwood Library by possibly moving it to the Norwood Town Hall precinct or upgrading the current building. The previous policy was to invest in all three libraries, as what happened for the St Peters and Payneham libraries. But because a few Councillors provided feedback at a workshop that the city didn’t need a library in Norwood, staff recommended that the capital investment of $3.5 million for the Norwood Library be removed from the LTFP. Despite several councillors voting to reinstate the funding, the motion lost by one vote. You may remember that our President, Ms Bernadette Bean, recently passed away and this campaign was close to her heart. We are looking for volunteers to help with a two-month campaign to reinstate the funding and if you can help in any way it would be greatly appreciated.
Some ways you can help are:
- Setting strategy
- Spreading the word
- Signing a petition
- Providing feedback during the LTFP consultation
- Lobby elected members
- Make a deputation at a council meeting
If you can possibly help in any way, please let us know by reply email or comment as soon as possible. No task is too small and whatever you can contribute will may a difference.
Yours sincerely,
Jim Dunk
Immediate Past President

PS – In Bernadette’s Tribute in The Advertiser on 28 February, her family invited friends to attend a celebration of her life at her home on Sunday, 11 March at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, they said that Bernadette would appreciate support for the Norwood Public Library.
